How Do You Sand The Finish Off An Armoire?
Whether you inherited a great old family heirloom or intend to expand your closet space with a thrift-store find, most wooden armoires need a little pick-me-up. it’s not hard to refinish an armoire once you strip the finish. If you are concerned about the toxic effects of commercial strippers, or just don’t want to risk damaging the wood, you can sand off varnish and paint quickly and easily. Put on a dust mask and use the coarse, open-grit sandpaper to remove the outer layer of the finish. Sand with the grain, and wipe away the dust as you work. Switch to the medium-grit sandpaper as soon as you can see bare wood. Wearing light gardening gloves will protect you from splinters, if the wood on the armoire is dry. Use fine-grit sandpaper to remove any remaining finish, and to work on any small nooks and corners if the armoire has intricate design-work. Rub the entire armoire down with clean cloths to remove any dust.
