How Do You Sand A Wood Floor With A Belt Sander?
The usual method of sanding down a wood floor for finishing or re-finishing is to use a drum sander, which is a large machine that you walk back and forth across the floor. However, if you’re doing a closet or an insert area of the floor where it’s simply too tight a space to use the drum sander, a hand-held belt sander is what you’ll need. The process of sanding is similar with either machine. Use your hammer and prybar to remove the outermost layer of floor trim. Remove it carefully, so you can re-use it at the end. Go over the floor with your hammer and counterpunch and knock down any nail heads that might be sticking up. Thoroughly sweep the the floor. Load your belt sander with 60-grit sandpaper. Squeeze the trigger on the sander before it’s set on the floor. Set it down and begin sanding from one corner, running the sander at a roughly 45-degree angle to the direction of the floorboards. Move the sander forward and back while working your way along the floor, until the whole floo
