How Do You Run Speaker Wire Together During Installation?
Running speaker wire for home theater may occasionally require splicing a connection between wires. Since speaker wire is really two pieces of wire, each with a different polarity, it’s crucial that each wired be spliced to the matching polarity of the other wire. This isn’t usually a problem since the speaker wires are manufactured in two colors to tell them apart. Wire strippers and common electrical splicing supplies available at hardware stores are needed to complete the job. Strip a half-inch of insulation from the ends of the speaker cables that will be spliced together. Each of the two wires on the end of the speaker cable will be a different color, typically copper and silver. Twist the copper wire on one speaker cable together with the copper wire on the other speaker cable so the two form a solid strand of wire.
