Rowing machines are very useful as workout tools when used properly. Rowing with proper form will allow for better workouts. The improper technique will cause detriment to the body. To row using a rowing machine: • Sit down on the seat so that your body is centered. • Adjust the foot straps so that your toes do not hang over the edges of the footboards. • Take hold of the handle – avoid a tight grip – with both hands keeping your arms shoulder-width apart.* • Start the rowing motion by bending slightly forward at the waist before breaking the knees. Your hands should be above your shins. Keep the back straight – then allow the knees to bend, sliding the seat as far forward towards your heels as possible. Your back should be straight with a slight forward lean. • Extend your arms fully so that you are reaching forward as far as possible.
