How Do You Rig Fishing Line Using Anchovies For Freshwater Striper?
Freshwater striper bass love baitfish, preferably live shiners kept in a minnow bucket until ready for fishing. But sometimes live bait is unavailable — your favorite baitshop is out of shiners and you can’t wait. Don’t let that keep you off the water. Rig your tackle with anchovies — those salty little fish some people put on pizza — and you’ll be battling stripers in no time. Buy frozen anchovies. If you can’t find them, buy a few tins of canned anchovies, separate them and place them loosely in a freezer bag. Freeze overnight. Don’t clump them or it will be a hassle to separate them while fishing. Take a frozen anchovy and cut it in half. Bait your hook with half an anchovy. Don’t worry about concealing the hook barb inside the bait. Rig the line with sufficient weight to get the bait down to the stripers, which are deep-running fish. Use a depth finder or ask someone familiar with the waters where you’ll be fishing Keep the anchovies frozen in a cooler. Use dry ice if you can. F
