How Do You Rewire PC Microphone & Headphone Connectors To A USB Connector?
A computer typically has only one audio-in and audio-out port, allowing only one microphone and headphone/speaker set to be connected at a time. However, if you want additional audio hardware connected to the computer a USB connection adapter can be used to convert the 3.5mm line-in/out port to a USB data port. This doubles the amount of audio connections a computer has through one USB connection. Connect the USB connection of the 3.5mm adapter into an empty USB port on the computer. Switch the control button on the adapter to “Line-In,” then connect the computer microphone into the 3.5mm connection port. This sends the audio into the computer from the microphone. Change the control button to “Line-Out,” then connect a pair of headphones to the 3.5mm port. The audio from the computer will play through the now-connected headphones.
