How Do You Reuse Chinese New Year Red Envelopes?
A core component of the Chinese Lunar New Year celebration is the giving of the red envelope. The red envelope bears a front image that garners blessings and good wishes to the recipient. The envelope, which is often given during dinner on Chinese Lunar New Year, contains crisp new bills. The recipient of the envelope usually accepts the envelope with both hands, gently bows her head, and waits until she is in private to open the envelope. The red envelopes are beautiful and decorative. They may be kept as sentimental keepsakes, or reused. Place the red envelope on a paper plate and a small amount of glitter in a bowl. Use a thin paint brush to apply glue over the Chinese calligraphy on the red envelope. Tilt the bowl containing the glitter and gently tap it to release glitter onto the glue-covered calligraphy.
