If your dining room chairs are looking worn, but are still in good condition, you can give your old chairs new life through fabric upholstery. If the chairs are flat, hard wood, you can add more comfortable, cushioned seats. You will save money doing the job yourself. Choose upholstery fabrics rather than regular fabrics, as they’re sturdier and will hold up longer than regular fabrics. Remove the seat from the frame of your dining room chair. Unscrew all screws with a screwdriver. Lift off the piece of wood that is the seat of the chair. Spread out your upholstery fabric on a sturdy flat surface. Make sure that the “wrong” side of the fabric is facing up. Lay the seat of the chair upside down on the fabric. Trace the perimeter of the seat on the fabric with a marking pen.
