Reupholstering a chair pad can bring a whole new look to your room. Whether your existing chair covers are dirty and torn or you just want a different color or pattern on your chairs, all you need to change their look is some fabric and a staple gun. You can even rescue garage sale and thrift store chairs with this technique, giving your home beautiful chairs for minimal cost. Remove the seat from the chair. Some seats are screwed onto the legs, and you will need to use a screwdriver to remove the screws. Other chairs seats are glued down. Use the tip of a flat-head screwdriver to pry a glued seat loose. Measure the length, width and depth of the chair seat. Calculate the amount of fabric you need. Multiply the depth of the chair by three. Add this number to the length and width. This is how big your fabric will need to be. Lay the fabric on a flat surface with the right side facing down, and cut it to the size you determined.
