Luckily, the Microsoft Windows XP operating system has the ability to save backup files of all your documents. This includes documents and files you saved from previous versions of Windows on your PC. So if you have lost files or documents on Microsoft Windows XP operating system here are methods to recover them. Boot your PC, and allow Windows XP to load completely. Recover files from your backup. Click Start > Control Panel > System and Maintenance > Backup and Restore > Restore My Files. You will now see the Restore wizard load. All you need to do now is follow these instructions as you are prompted. If this does not help recover your files, continue to Step 3. Recover files that were saved in previous versions of Windows. Select Start > Computer. Locate the folder in which you saved this file. Right click this file now and select “Restore Previous Versions.”
