Windows XP has a Repair Installation feature that allows you restore and reinstall all of the system files to their original specifications while leaving your data and program files intact. This repair and restoration method is extremely useful if you have a computer problem that needs to be fixed and you can’t afford to lose any of your data. Put your XP CD into your computer and restart it. Once the computer starts up, press the boot menu key (displayed on the screen when the computer starts) several times to open the boot menu. Choose to boot from the CD drive. Press any key on your keyboard when prompted, press the “Enter” key at the welcome screen and then press the “F8” key to agree to the license installation terms and conditions. Choose the drive which contains your Windows XP using the arrow keys and then press the “R” key. Wait while Windows restores the system files back to their factory default settings. Once this has completed, you can log back in to the operating system a
