How Do You Restore The Master File Table?

0

The Master File Table, or MFT, is an index in the Windows XP operating systems that records where individual data files are stored on the computer’s hard disk. If the MFT becomes damaged or corrupted, the operating system will not be able to locate and use the installed data files and may stop operating. You can restore the master file table using the Windows XP product CD. Place the Windows XP product CD in the CD drive. Restart the computer. The computer will boot to the CD rather than to the damaged Windows installation. If you are prompted to press a particular key to boot to the CD, do so. Follow the prompts. The start-up process will present a series of text-based prompts to allow you to access the Recovery Console. Press the “R” key to choose the repair function when prompted. This loads the console. Choose the number displayed on the Recovery Console screen for the Windows XP installation you want to repair and press the corresponding number key. Enter the administrator passwor
