Restoring default settings in the Windows XP operating system is not as difficult as it may at first seem. It is rather easy to do. All you need is basic computer literacy. Most of your settings within XP operating system, such as appearance, have a standard version. This is your default setting. These are the steps to help you get your appearance setting back to this default setting. Select “Control Panel” from your Start menu. Wait for Control Panel to populate completely. Open “Appearance and Personalization,” located inside your Control Panel menu. Select “Change Color Scheme” in the Appearance and Personalization dialog box. Select “Windows XP Standard” from the drop-down list located in the Appearance Settings dialog box. Now click “Apply” and then “OK.” Your XP appearance has now been restored.
