How Do You Restore A Vintage Wood Stove?
A vintage wood stove is an interesting piece to add to your home. Being able to restore one to its original working condition isn’t difficult, but it does take a lot of elbow grease. Once the restoration is complete, you can use the stove. However, old wood burners aren’t nearly as efficient as today’s modern stoves. So plan on burning it as an occasional novelty but not as an ongoing heat source for your home. Step 1 Locate the cracks in the stove by removing all the grates and hanging a work light in the firebox. Close the door, turn off all the lights in the room and check the stove for leaking light. Look especially close at all the seams. Step 2 Remove any rust or dirt from around the cracks with a wire brush. Then pack the crack inside and out using a putty knife with furnace cement.
