You can easily determine which type you have by whether a magnet will stick to the board. Restoring your board can be done using commercial products designed specifically for that purpose. But you can achieve the same results inexpensively by using materials you probably already have around the house. Erase the board completely. Remove dry marks that have been on the board for a long time by writing over them with a fresh new marker. Then let the ink dry completely and erase again. This is sometimes all that is necessary. If that doesn’t complete the job for you, proceed to the next steps. Combine 1/2 cup of water with 1/2 cup of ordinary rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle.
