Your garage door opener may stop working for numerous reasons. Dirty sensors, a depleted battery and malfunctioning remote controls may all contribute to the problem. However, you can reset your garage door opener to get your system back in working order. Simple steps such as reprogramming the garage door remote, replacing the battery or cleaning the sensors are projects that even a novice can complete within a couple of hours. Replace the battery with a new 9-volt battery to see if it fixes the problem. The battery compartment is on the back of your garage door remote. Remove the garage door opener plug from the electrical outlet it’s plugged into. Wait one minute, then plug it back in to reset the sensors. Clean the eyes on the sensors on your garage door opener and on the garage door remote controls. Wipe the sensors using a dry, lint-free cloth. Press the “Learn” button on your garage door opener, and hold it down until the light stops blinking to erase all of the transmitter codes
