How Do You Reset A Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter?
A ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) is an electrical outlet installed in residential and commercial structures to reduce the risk of electric shock. The outlet detects faults in an electrical power cable plugged into the outlet and any changes in the electrical device attached to the power cable. Once a fault is found, the GFCI power outlet shuts off automatically, keeping you from being shocked and/or preventing fire. After a GFCI shuts off, you must reset the outlet before using it again. Unplug the electrical device that caused the GFCI outlet to shut off. Press the “Reset” button, located in the middle of the GFCI outlet, to return the outlet to its working previous state. Plug a lamp or other electrical device into the top or bottom power receptacle of the GFCI outlet. Turn on the lamp or other electrical device to test the GFCI outlet. The lamp or other device should be working — if not, press the “Reset” button again. If the lamp or other device still does not power on,
