How Do You Report Suspected Gang Activity?
Gang activity is a scary prospect, especially in your neighborhood and around your children. It is wise to report anything you see and let your local law enforcement deal with the problem. Do this carefully as some gangs may retaliate or seek revenge. Be observant, but not obvious. Pay attention to the activities and try to remember what the people involved look like, but do not make yourself noticeable. If the situation is an emergency, such as when you see a weapon or there is a crime in progress, go somewhere safe and call 911. Give the operator as much information as you can. If it is safe to do so, wait nearby to speak with police. Make a non-emergency phone call. If the situation is not life threatening or you don’t see evidence of any crime, call the non-emergency line to report any suspicious activities. Leave your contact information for follow up. Go to the police station and fill out a gang activity report. You may be asked to speak with the gang activity unit in your area.
