How Do You Replant Canna Lilies?
Canna lilies are beautiful tropical-looking plants (but not really lilies). They are also perennials and known for their beautiful, colorful and fragrant flowers. These flowers are red, yellow or orange with leaves in green or maroon color. The canna lily adds wonderful color to any flower garden and are also generally easy to care for. To ensure they grow to full bloom in the following summer, the lilies should be uprooted in the fall and replanted in the spring. This will allow the plant to have a long life span with gorgeous flowers. Cut the lily stems so they are 2 to 3 inches long with a pair of garden shears. Use a small garden shovel to carefully dig the canna lily roots up from the soil. Brush off any excess soil from the roots. Do this in fall. Let the lilies dry out inside. Once the stems are dry, keep them in a cool dry place for the entire winter (basement is the best place for this). Pick the best place to replant the lilies in the spring when there is no threat of frost.
