Used to be back in the old days, even before my time, you could open a car hood and practically crawl into the engine compartment to work on it. Everything was accessible and the driveway mechanic had it pretty nice. Now, you have the things sardined into the compartment covered with computers, and protective plastic covers and worse they seem to design the damn thing to be difficult to change. God’s gift to mechanic’s labor rates. True story, I had a Toyota Paseo and it developed a coolant leak. I could not figure out where it was, so I gave up took it in to mechanic. They knew right where it was, and took care of it. Some five cent seal have worn out and 300 bucks in labor to take all the other crud off to get to it. Well, that or I got taken. Anyway, since they may have designed some roadblock into removing the starter you probably need to find a Chilton’s manual or the like. Hopefully, it will tell what steps and the order in which you must take them to get the thing out.
