How Do You Replace The Oil Pan Gasket In A VW Passat?
If you notice a puddle of oil forming under the engine of your VW Passat, it may be a sign that the oil pan gasket has worn out. Changing the oil in newer Passat models is a very involved job for an experienced mechanic, but if you have a vintage Passat model year 1996 or older, the job is much simpler. Use jacks to raise the front of the VW Passat up on jackstands and block the rear wheels to keep them stable. Climb under the car and slide a drain pan under the oil pan. Loosen the oil pan plug with a socket wrench and drain the oil into the drain pan. Allow enough time for the oil to drain completely. Loosen the bolts on the oil pan and carefully remove the oil pan from the engine. Scrape the old gasket from the oil pan with a thin putty knife, working slowly so you don’t scratch the surface.
