If you’ve noticed a puddle of oil under your Ford F-Series truck, it may be an indication that the oil pan gasket is leaking and needs to be replaced. Changing the oil pan gasket can be difficult and on some models, the engine will need to be lifted to provide access to the oil pan. However, some models are more accessible. Here’s how to change the oil pan gasket in a 1997 to 2003 model Ford F-150. Raise the truck with jacks and support it safely on jack stands. Block the rear wheels as an added safety measure. If your truck is a 4X4, remove the front axle housing. Locate the drain plug on the bottom of the oil pan and place a large bucket under the plug. Remove the drain plug with a socket wrench and let the oil drain into the bucket. Remove the 16 bolts holding the oil pan in place and carefully lower the oil pan.
