Replacing an engine fan in a VW Jetta is a very complicated procedure and isn’t recommended for a novice. If you care to attempt it, follow these steps very carefully. You need to remove the radiator from your VW Jetta in order to get to the engine fan. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable with a wrench. Drain the engine coolant into a suitable container or drip tray that can be covered to protect against debris. Do this by removing the drain plug on the underneath of the radiator and then allow the coolant to completely drain and replace the plug. Unplug the electrical connectors from the thermal switch and coolant fan. Remove the front bumper cover by removing the release lever locking clamp by pushing upward and then bring the lock carrier into service position.
