When you are in an accident with your John Deere L120 lawn tractor or if the mower is just getting old and rusty, then it is very possible that the exhaust pipe from the engine could be bent or cracked. The muffler provides back pressure for the engine, but if the exhaust pipe isn’t providing the proper seal for airflow, then your engine will lose power and gas efficiency. You will need to replace the exhaust pipe to restore your John Deere engine power again. Unscrew the four bolts holding the muffler to the front of the John Deere tractor frame with the proper sized wrenches. Slide the muffler off of the exhaust pipe. Unscrew the two bolts holding the exhaust pipe to the side of the engine. Pull off the exhaust pipe and the gasket behind it. Place the new gasket over the exhaust hole on the side of the engine. Bolt the new exhaust pipe over the exhaust hole on the side of the engine tightly. Slide the muffler back onto the new exhaust pipe and bolt the muffler back onto the front of
