Occasionally, the coupling on the Whirlpool washing machine will wear out or break due to usage or defective parts. The Whirlpool washers use a three-piece plastic and rubber coupling system. There are a few indicators of the couplers wearing out, including the washer drum not turning and finding black shavings under the washer as a result of the couplings grinding together.
