How do you replace the blinker-headlight switch in the steering column?

Had to replace one in my ’96 and the anwers above are exactly right. Mine has two Torx screws that go up from the bottom of the steering column cover into the top 1/2 of the cover. They’re sunk pretty deep into the access holes and dang near impossible to see. I had to buy a cheapo set of Torx wrenches to do the job. I highly recommend that if you too need to buy them, get the ones with the “T” handles. It makes the job much easier. I had the same problem lining up the two screws in the new switch too. I also had the horn blowing every time my screwdriver touched the contact. I let the damned thing blow. I finally found that some of the wiring and the wiring plugs were in the way of the switch. When you first take the steering column covers off, take a look at where the connectors and wiring harness(s) sit. Be sure to put ’em back in the same place.
