The black water tank is is a special tank located on the underneath of your travel trailer, or RV, that is used specifically to store waste water from its toilet. Sink water and shower water run into a separate storage tank called a gray water tank. Over time, your black water tank can develop problems that, in some cases, may require complete replacement. Drain any waste and water from your existing tank at a trailer dumping station. Turn off and remove all water and plumbing hookups. Remove the black water tank hose from its nozzle using an open-ended wrench. The black water tank hose will be directly behind your trailer’s toilet. Depending on the make and model of your trailer, you may have to pull your toilet forward to access the black water hose. Do this by loosening the two bolts at the base of the toilet that hold it down. Set ladder against the trailer and climb up to the roof.
