The Bissell Company, established in 1883 by Melville and Anna Bissell, was the first company to introduce deep-cleaning carpet cleaners to consumers. Bissell machines are constructed for easy access to replaceable parts. The Bissell Steam machine cleaner has two replaceable belts: a pump belt and brush roll belt. The pump belt is the belt that runs the pump motor; the brush roll belt spins the brush roll. Both belts are attached to the same pulley barrel: the pump belt is attached to the smooth end of the barrel, and the brush belt is attached to the ridged end of the barrel. Turn off the steam cleaner; unplug it from the power source. Step lightly on the steam cleaner’s release pedal, to allow the handle to rest on the floor. Remove the water tank. Look for the “Belt Access” cover on the right-hand side of the cleaner as you face the cleaner. Use a flat-head screwdriver to carefully pry off the cover.
