The typical post hole basket/strainer assembly consists of three parts; the lifting post, the basket itself and the metal stopper plug attached to the threaded lower end of the post. Your assembly may be brass, chrome plated brass, or stainless steel. Single sinks are equipped with one strainer; double sinks have two, one for each drain. Replacement Step 1 Rinse the old basket/strainer clean and dry with an old towel. By drying it first, the unit will not be slippery when you disassemble it.
