Spark plugs are one of the smallest, cheapest parts of a car, yet one of the most crucial components of a gasoline engine. Spark plugs do just what their name implies, generating the spark necessary for the ignition of the fuel-and-air mixture inside each of the combustion cylinders. That process in turn generates the power needed for the engine to move the car. Because of the nature of their function, spark plugs must be replaced periodically. Replacing spark plugs is neither especially difficult nor expensive. Locate the spark plugs you wish to remove. Each will have a wire running from the alternator to the top of the spark plug, so they will not be difficult to find. Remove the wire from the top of the spark plug. Do this by gripping the connector firmly and pulling straight up. Use your ratchet and spark-plug socket–a specially designed deep-dish socket for removing spark plugs–to loosen the spark plug slightly. Do not remove the spark plug just yet. Use your clean cloth or rag
