Boats, like any form of transportation, require a certain amount of maintenance to ensure they work correctly. And even though boats don’t need much, when things break, it can be catastrophic. Aluminum boats don’t rust, but when they’re held together by rivets, they can loosen up and start to come apart. To fix the problem, you have to replace the rivets. Lift the boat out of the water with the help of an assistant and place the boat, upside down, on the sawhorses for support. This will give you access to all of the heads of the rivets, making the job a bit easier. Insert a metal drill bit into the drill and put the bit in the center of the loosened rivet. Drill out the rivet using the drill bit. You want to step up progressively in drill bit size–that way, you can completely drill out the rivet and start off fresh.
