Turn off power to the light fixture at the breaker panel. Check with a circuit tester to make sure there is no power at the fixture. Remove the bulb and decorative trim. The trim is merely snapped in place and does not require any tools for removal. Use needle-nosed pliers to remove the springs or clips holding the metal casing. Take out the casing. Measure existing light fixture so you can buy the proper sized replacement. Purchase new recessed lighting fixtures at any lighting store or home improvement center.
