How Do You Replace Metal Window Screens?
When metal screens get damaged from weather, accidents, or wear and tear, they become an eyesore on the outside of windows or doors. Cuts and tears in screens let insects and other pests inside. Replacing the screen cosmetically improves the exterior of your home and makes the screens functional again. Metal screens can be replaced easily in the existing frame, or a new frame can be purchased. Remove the existing metal screen from the outside of the window. On metal-framed screens, a spring mechanism holds the screen in place with tension. Release the tension to pop the screen out by pressing on the spring mechanisms, usually located on top and bottom of the screen, or on each side. Using pliers and utility shears, pull the existing screen from the frame, cutting as necessary for your convenience. Measure the screen frame. Add two inches to each side. Cut new screen using the utility shears to the expanded dimensions. Lay the screen frame on a large flat surface with the screen channel
