You opened up the cabinet under the sink and noticed a puddle of water. The most likely culprit is the kitchen sink drain. The seal between the sink drain flange and the sink can become cracked, causing the leak. Insert the handles from a pair of pliers into the sink strainer. This will help prevent the entire drain assembly from moving while loosening the lock nut underneath. Remove the lock nut underneath the sink that holds the sink drain to the sink using a pipe wrench. Once it has been loosened with the pipe wrench, you can finish unscrewing it by hand.
