How Do You Replace Home Air Filters?
If a home has central air and heating or forced air, the air filters will need to be replaced on a regular basis. Failure to do so will compromise the air quality in the home. Air filters can be purchased at a hardware store or in some superstores or grocery stores. They are available in disposable or reusable filters. Sizes vary. Locate your air return, where the filter will be inserted. If your home is larger and has two air conditioners, there will be two air returns. This will be a framed grid area that opens and closes like a door. It may be located on the ceiling, or the wall. Open the door on the air return. Typically, this will require loosening the screws along the perimeter, until the frame/door swings open. Remove the air filter from behind the opened door. There may be small levers along the perimeter holding the air filter in place. Turn these levers to the side; the filter should pull out of the opening. Note the size of the filter.
