Replacing fluorescent shop lights is easier than the original installation because the wiring is in place. This is particularly true if the new lights are going to be installed in the same locations as the existing lights. The electricity will need to be turned off while the lights are being replaced, so do this procedure during times of natural light to avoid working with a flashlight. Turn on the existing fluorescent fixtures at the wall switch. Then turn off breakers at the breaker box until the lights go off. Leave this particular breaker off, which will allow you to work with the fluorescent fixture wiring without being shocked. If the fluorescent light has a cover, remove the cover by lifting it off its track on one side. Keep your hand on the cover and let it swing to a vertical position. Then lift it off the other track.
