How Do You Replace Caulk On A Tub Spout?
It is important to periodically remove and replace old caulk on a tub spout. The tub is wet constantly and mildew and mold develop over time. Applying caulk with a caulking gun can be sloppy, but with practice and a bit of know-how the job is fairly easy. Remove most of the old caulk from the tub spout with a plastic scraper. Dampen and moisten the remaining caulk for about three days with a towel. Do not use the tub until it is caulked again. Use the scraper to remove as much of the remaining caulk as possible once the liquid has soaked in. Apply alcohol or a caulk remover on a cotton swab. Wipe the solution on the surface and scrape and remove the remaining caulk. Apply a ΒΌ-inch bead of caulk around the tub spout. Dampen your finger with wet towel and press the caulk evenly into the joint. Let the caulk cure overnight before using.
