Black Diamond has been making hiking poles and back country ski poles for years. They are considered a premium brand, built for performance, comfort, and durability. The tips are subject to the most wear and tear, and occasionally require replacement. New “Flex tips” may be purchased from Black Diamond dealers, or directly from the Black Diamond web site. If present, remove the baskets (small disks) from both Flex Tips. They are held in place by ridges on the Flex Tips. Hold the pole vertical with the tip firmly pressed onto the ground. Force the basket off the tip by pressing down with your hands. Avoid using a tool, as doing so may damage the basket. Set the baskets aside. Tighten the pole sections. Adjust the jaws of the vise, or channel lock pliers, so the gap is bigger than the bottom pole section diameter, but smaller than the Flex Tip diameter. Place the bottom pole section between the jaws, and by pulling the pole, slam the top of the flex tip against the sides of the jaws. Rep
