How Do You Replace Battery Cables In A Mercury Cougar?
During a routine inspection of your Mercury Cougar, you should check the battery cables for wear or corrosion. Your Cougar will start having trouble starting if your cables are going bad. Turn the car off, engage the parking brake and put on gloves before you switch out the battery cables to protect your hands from battery acid. Find the battery on the passenger side near the front bumper on the Mercury Cougar. Loosen the bolt on the black negative battery cable first with a box wrench or cable clamp pliers. Wriggle the cable end off the post. Repeat the process on the red positive cable. Take off both cables from the battery, even if you’re replacing only one. Follow the negative cable with the minus sign on it to where it’s grounded on the front of the Mercury Cougar frame next to the headlight assembly. Remove the end of the cable with a wrench. Track the positive cable to its connection on the starter solenoid mounted on the side of the fender and remove it with a wrench. Clean the
