How Do You Replace An Overhead Garage Door?
This is intended to be a guide to replacing a standard overhead garage door. Please refer to the instructions that come with your door, as there is variation between manufacturers. A new garage door comes packaged with all the door sections, rollers, tracks, tensioning device, and hardware. If you have to take it back, now is the time to find out, not halfway through the install. Open the packaging and make sure that ALL the pieces are present before continuing. If the door has springs, raise the door and clamp in place, pushing up a little to ensure that the spring tension is removed. Disconnect the springs and cables, which will attach at the bottom on either side. Carefully lower the door, which will be heavy, with a helper if possible. Disassemble the old door, section by section. Start at the top. Put the pieces aside for disposal. If you are replacing the tracks, remove them after the door is completely removed.
