How Do You Replace An Automotive Thermostat?
The thermostat in the automobile controls the engine temperature. The thermostat is set to open when the engine temperature starts to get hot and it closes when the temperature is at normal levels. When the thermostat starts to go it will stick and cause the vehicle to overheat. You can get by with a sticky thermostat for a little while but it does need to be replaced as soon as possible. Open the hood to access the engine compartment. Follow the top radiator hose to the thermostat housing assembly. Remove the hose at the motor end of it. The hose is held on by a hose clamp. Loosen the hose clamp with a Phillips head screwdriver. Pull the hose off the assembly. Unscrew the two bolts with a socket wrench on the thermostat housing assembly. Take the housing cover off when the two bolts are loosened. The housing cover may be stubborn to remove so you can tap it with the hammer. The housing will come right off.
