How Do You Replace An Automatic Shift Knob?
Drivers of vehicles with automatic transmissions shift gears by handling a lever topped by a shift knob. These automatic shift knobs, which are generally covered by leather or chrome, may become worn over time and require you to replace it. You may also wish to replace your old shift knob with a customized, novelty knob. The process is relatively straight forward, and should only take a few minutes. Park your vehicle and set the emergency brake. Remove the screw inside the small hole on the back of the knob using a screwdriver. Place the screw somewhere you can easily retrieve it, and pull of the shift knob. Cut the overdrive wires using the wire clippers. If you have an overdrive feature, you will have to rewire the old wires to the new ones. Locate the trim piece at the base of the knob, if there is no hole. Pull it down and look for a retaining clip. Remove the clip using the pliers, then carefully remove the knob. Once again, cut the overdrive wires. Place the new knob on the shaft
