How Do You Replace A Water Heater Dip Tube?
The dip tube in a water heater is a long piece of plastic that carries cold water from the water supply to the bottom of the water heater. By carrying the cold water down to the bottom of the water tank, the cold water does not mix with the hot water at the top of the tank, causing you to get warm water instead of hot water in your shower. These tubes are known to break inside the water heater, and you must replace the water heater dip tube to continue providing hot water to your home. Turn off the electricity to the water heater, or turn off the gas supply valve on a gas water heater and turn off the pilot light. Attach the end of a water hose to the drain valve at the bottom of the water heater. Place the other end of the hose over a drain. Shut off the water supply valve, and turn on a hot water faucet inside your home. Open the drain valve on the water heater and allow the water to drain from the tank. Disconnect the water supply valve from the nipple at the top of the water heater
