The video card on the Dell Inspiron 6400 is secured to the thermal-cooling unit in what is collectively called the video card/thermal-cooling assembly. It sits on top of the motherboard and controls the images that appear on the computer. If the card dies or needs to be upgraded, with a couple of screwdrivers, you can replace the video card yourself. Shut down the computer and disconnect all the cables from it. Insert a flat-head screwdriver into the indentation on the far right side of the hinge cover and lift it up. Remove the hinge cover by lifting it from right to left until it’s completely free from the computer. Extract the two screws at the top of the keyboard and flip it over the palm rest. Disconnect the ribbon cable that’s attached to the keyboard and remove the keyboard from the computer. Turn the computer around so that the back faces you.
