You can do most vacuum cleaner repairs yourself, like replacing belts or replacing the beater bar. Step 1 Turn your upright vacuum cleaner or the vacuum head upside down to check the beater bar. It will be located at the front edge of the unit. Step 2 Remove the clips at each end, take out the drive belt, and lift the beater bar out of the vacuum cleaner unit. Before ordering the beater bar or parts check to see if something is caught in the beater bar like hair, carpet threads or string or other objects causing it to run poorly.
