Read on to learn more. Step 1 Turn the water supply off for the toilet. You will find the knob for the water supply near the back of the toilet. Twist the knob in a clockwise direction. Once you have turned off the water supply, flush the toilet to drain the water from the tank. Sop up any remaining water inside the tank with a towel. Step 2 Use a large wrench to undo the 2 inch bolt at the bottom of the tank for the flush valve assembly. You can loosen the bolt the rest of the way with your fingers. Step 3 Lift the tank from the toilet bowl. Step 4 Replace the plastic outlet ring, the washer and the overflow tube. Finger tighten it first, then use your pliers.
