How Do You Replace A Sink Drain Basket?
There is no need to call a plumber to replace a sink basket. The task can be accomplished by anyone, even someone with no experience in home repairs. You can purchase a new sink strainer, including all the necessary parts needed for installing, at any hardware store for about ten dollars. Step 1 Clear under the sink. You will see a “P” shaped pipe. This is the P-trap. You will also see a large locknut. Remove it. Next remove the friction ring, then the gasket, and pull the old basket out of the sink. Step 2 Use a plastic putty knife and scrape off the old putty. Step 3 Check the package that contains the basket strainer. It should include a rubber gasket, paper washer and lock nuts to hold the basket onto the basin Step 4 Apply a bead line of transparent silicone around the rim of the opening and the underside edge of the basket. Set the basket in the hole and turn just a bit. This will spread the silicone. Step 5 Apply a thin layer of pipe thread compound to the large-diameter threads
