The pool filter is one of the most important pieces to a pool system. The pool filter is responsible for filtering the dirt and debris out of the pool water and returning the clean water to the pool. If your filter needs replacing, due to damage or an upgrade, it’s important to follow the correct steps to ensure your pool water is clean, and the filter is properly installed. Disconnect power to the pool pump by unplugging the electrical cord or turning the circuit breaker off. Open all drain valves on the pool skimmer and pool pump to allow the pool water level to go below the pool return line. This is important so you can cleanly replace the pool filter without water coming out of the return line. Close the water valves on the pool skimmer and open the water valve on the pool filter. This will drain the remaining water in the pool filter’s drum, and avoid the loss of unnecessary water.
