A Moen shower stem can be easily damaged and when it is damaged it can cause your faucet to have a constant drip. The damage most often will come from debris in the pipes, which will lead to nicks in the rubber gaskets. For some of the stems you can purchase new gaskets, but for other’s you only have the option of a complete new stem. Taking the stem out and replacing it is a fairly straight forward task, which can be completed without having to call a plumber. Step 1 Turn off the water supply to the shower, which may mean you need to turn off the water supply to your entire home. Remove the decorative tip on the shower valve to expose a screw holding on the valve handle. Remove the screw and take off the handle. Step 2 Remove the screws holding on the faceplate of the valve assembly and set the faceplate aside. Find the retainer clip on the valve stem, and remove it using pliers.
