A leaky tub faucet can drive you crazy. It wastes water and increases your bill. Some leaks are caused by a the simple problem of a washer no longer sealing properly. Other times, worn seals and gaskets in the valve assembly will cause the leaks. The best way to fix the problem is to replace the faucet. This can be done relatively easily with the right tools and a little elbow grease. Turn off the water supply to the bathroom. Remove the faucet handle. If it won’t come off, use a handle puller. Unscrew the escutcheon plate and the stem assembly using a bath socket wrench. Remove the old seat and replace with a new one using a seat wrench. Unscrew the packing nut and twist the stem clockwise. Back it out of the bonnet. Remove the old packing washer using a flat-blade screwdriver. Reinstall the stem in the bonnet. Slide the new packing washer into place. Tighten the packing nut. Remove the old seat washer screw and the old seat washer, grease them with plumber’s grease, and then reinstal
